VCCA is supported through the partnership of the artists it serves and the donors who are committed to advancing creative work. We depend on accepted applicants to help offset the cost of their residencies to the best of their ability.
Mt. San Angelo
VCCA offers a number of fully-funded residencies and is working to build an endowment large enough to sustain free residencies for all. Until we reach that goal, VCCA relies on residency payments from artists to cover costs.
Accepted artists who do not receive fully-funded fellowships are asked to pay $75 per day (half the actual cost; VCCA’s Annual Fund covers the other half). Those who are not able to pay $75 per day may request financial assistance when applying.
Artists are accepted to VCCA based on the quality of their work and not on their ability to pay. VCCA distributes a generous amount of financial aid every year. If you are accepted and cannot pay at least $75 per day, VCCA will work with you in good faith to be sure you can come.
Moulin à Nef
The cost of a VCCA residency is $240 per artist/per day and includes a private bedroom, semi-private bath, an individual studio, and two meals each week. We require a minimum payment of $80 per day and welcome a per diem payment up to the full daily cost. There are limited partial scholarships available. If you are requesting to pay less than $80 per day, please submit a copy of your most recent tax return (1040 form) by October 1, to VCCA International Programs, 154 San Angelo Dr, Amherst, VA 24521 or via email.
The suggested per diem payment for international residencies is $75. If you are requesting to pay less than $75 per day, please submit a copy of your most recent tax return (1040 form) by October 1, to VCCA International Programs, 154 San Angelo Dr, Amherst, VA 24521 or via email.
Reductions are granted when a true need is demonstrated.
Application Fee Waivers
VCCA charges a $30 application fee to help offset our administrative costs of processing applications (e.g. SlideRoom licensing and submissions fees, staff hours, etc.). We understand this cost can be prohibitive to some prospective applicants, and we never want our application fee to prevent anyone from seeking a residency or fellowship opportunity with VCCA.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org in advance of your application deadline if you need to arrange an application fee waiver.
