UNESCO-ASCHBERG BURSARIES FOR ARTISTS PROGRAMME

An opportunity for Latin American, Carribbean and African composers

The VCCA in partnership with the UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme offers a fully-supported residency for a young composer from Latin America, the Caribbean or Africa.  The fellowships are co-financed by UNESCO-Aschberg and the VCCA.  Please visit the UNESCO-Aschberg website for more details about the program.

Working/living conditions
The laureate will be provided with a private studio with a piano, a private bedroom and shared bath, and three prepared meals each day in this community of 23 professional composers, artists and writers.  There is internet access.

Nature of Bursary
Roundtrip airfare, board and lodging for the length of the residency.  The residency offers the laureate an opportunity to pursue his or her own creative work without distraction in a pastoral residential setting.  The laureate must provide his/her own health insurance.

August 25, 2009 - October 6, 2009

Eligibility
Composers of demonstrated ability and commitment, between the ages of 25 and 35, currently living in Latin America, the Caribbean or Africa.  Working knowledge of English is required.

Send the UNESCO-Aschberg application form directly the VCCA at the address above, together with:
- a brief letter of application
- a curriculum vitae
- two letters of recommendation
- a description of the project
- a set of up to three scores (include dates completed), and, if available, a corresponding cassette or compact disc of the work labeled with title, your name, duration of composition, and date of composition.
