VCCA-HOSTED PROGRAMS
OFFERED BY OUTSIDE INSTITUTIONS

Studio and programming space in the South of France

In keeping with the spirit in which the VCCA received the Moulin à Nef, and to further cultural exchange and arts programming, we welcome like-minded arts and cultural organizations to use our arts center for their own programming. Past participants have included Yale University, the Southwest School of Art and Craft and The Visual Arts Center of Richmond. These organizations offered their own arts programming hosted by the VCCA at our studio center in Auvillar. These programs were open to the public.

In 2009, the VCCA welcomed Yale University's YSS@ISS program to the Moulin à Nef. Yale Summer Session at the Institute for Studio Studies is a private course open to Yale and non-Yale students in both the fine arts and liberal arts. Students are challenged with rigorous individual research investigations in painting and drawing in order to develop an understanding of studio strategies for initiating, clarifying, articulating, and imaging visual ideas. Because of the program’s unusually intensive nature, considerable student commitment and a strong work ethic are required.

Led by 2008 Moulin à Nef Resident Director, studio artist Jeannette MacDougall, pictured at right, this drawing and painting workshop offered one-on-one drawing and painting instruction in a variety of remarkable settings taking advantage of sweeping vistas and landscapes that have changed little over centuries.

A workshop in clay was led by Richard McCord, faculty member at Visual Arts Center. The workshop coincided with the annual European pottery festival in Auvillar which celebrates the village's history as the epicenter of the French Faience tradition. The Marché des Potiers, the second week in October, attracts potters from all over Europe who converge upon the tiny hamlet to sell their varied and fascinating handcrafted wares.
