SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Without artists there is no art

The VCCA exists to support the creative work of the world's best artists. Residential fellowships at our Mt. San Angelo facility in Virginia are the core of our program. Many of our special programs directly support that core mission. Other programs complement it by offering unique opportunities to our Fellows.

Our new flagship international program is administered in our 17th-century facility in the south of France. At Le Moulin à Nef  we host 12 artists a year for one-month residential fellowships in the medieval village of Auvillar in Gascony. A series of workshops is also offered each year, and the property is available for rental.

Our international exchange program offers residential fellowships for VCCA Fellows in many parts of the world, allowing them entree to a new culture and access to artists in those settings.

Regional initiatives have been established in partnership with foundations and organizations who understand the benefit of supporting the work of their artists.

The Goldfarb Family Fellowship for nonfiction writers provides a fully funded two week residency for a nonfiction writer each fall. Internationally known jurors like Joel Agee, Naomi Wolf, and Rob Nixon make the final selection.
