St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta, MaltaIn 2012, the St. James Cavalier Centre on the Mediterranean island of Malta will offer a six-week residency for one poet and one visual artist. VCCA participants are provided a combined studio/living space in downtown Valletta, close to the Centre, a restored 16th century fort redesigned as a contemporary art complex of galleries, theaters, music halls, and cafés in the capital city. Now celebrating its 10th year, the Centre has welcomed both local and foreign artists, writers, singers, and actors, dancers and musicians, as well as thinkers, scientists, and other creators. It has staged operas, premiered plays, and held major exhibitions of contemporary pieces as well as work by past masters. Interaction with the general public in the form of an artist's talk, a performance or a reading is encouraged at some point during the residency. One meal a day -- and a glass of wine -- at the St. James restaurant/cafeteria is provided, in addition to a stipend of 12 euros per day for food. This residency offers the opportunity to work and explore this extraordinary island. For further information, see the website for the St. James Cavalier Centre.
