Work-Study Scholarships for Auvillar Workshops
There are two merit-based work-study scholarships available for the writing workshop, "O Taste and See: Writing the Senses in Deep France."
This award supports an applicant who will help prepare, set up, and clear away meals for workshop participants, as well as perform light housekeeping duties. The work-study participant is selected by the workshop leader on the merit of the work submitted with the application. The recipient will receive a $1,000 reduction toward the cost of the workshop.
This $500 award supports an applicant who will assist the workshop leader with clerical and copying duties connected with the smooth running of the workshop, including typing, printing, and coordinating workshop materials as directed by the workshop leader.
None of the work-study scholarship duties will interfere with the recipient's full participation in the classes or in social and cultural activities planned for the duration. Scholarship winners are required to arrive one full day prior to the start of the workshop date for orientation. Please be aware of this before applying.
Please enclose a $20 application check or money order and a work sample -- ten pages of prose or six poems --- with your entry and application form.
Note: No deposit fee is due when applying for scholarship consideration. Upon notification of receiving the scholarship award, recipients will then be required to pay a $500 deposit fee toward the reduced cost of the workshop. Please note on the application form that you are applying for a scholarship.
Postmark deadline for scholarship consideration is February 14, 2014. Send your check, application, and work to:
154 San Angelo Drive
Amherst, VA 24521
We will notify you by e-mail when your application has been received. Please note that manuscripts and work samples will not be returned. The VCCA reserves the right not to award work-study scholarships if less than the minimum number of applicants has been met. In that case, the entry fee will be refunded.
