INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM

No artists' community is an island

The VCCA currently offers exchange programs with seven international artists' communities. The program is open to all writers, visual artists, and composers who previously have been in residence at the VCCA. With the exception of the program in Auvillar, France, the standard daily financial contribution for international residencies is $40. Reductions of the financial contribution are granted when a true need is demonstrated. Please include your most recent 1040 income tax form when requesting a reduction of fees on international programs. Participating Fellows are responsible for all transportation arrangements and cost. If you are interested in applying for any of these programs, please call 434-946-7236 or email vcca@vcca.com to request an application.

Tyrone Guthrie Centre, County Monaghan, Ireland
In 2008, the VCCA will offer a one-month residency to one poet and one composer at Annaghmakerrig, the former estate of Sir Tyrone Guthrie, 70 miles from Dublin. A residential program similar to the VCCA, the Guthrie Centre provides artists with private studios and prepared meals in the company of other visiting artists.

St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta, Malta
This is a six-week residency for a writer on the Mediterranean island of Malta. The VCCA participant will be provided a combined studio/living space in downtown Valletta, close to the St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, a newly restored fort which has recently been opened as a contemporary art complex of galleries, theaters, music halls, and cafés in the capital city. Interaction with the general public in the form of an artist's talk, a performance or a reading is encouraged at some point during the residency. One meal a day at the St. James restaurant/cafeteria is provided, in addition to a modest stipend for food. This residency offers the opportunity to work and explore this extraordinary island.
