In 1991, the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation began a far-sighted program of support for the artist community of greater Washington, D.C. For more than fifteen years, on and off, the foundation supported the residencies of nearly 150 artists, writers, and composers at the VCCA. The Cafritz Foundation served as the model for our other regional initiatives.
Every time I've come here I've come away with so much completed work that it would take me under normal circumstances about a year to do. It's something that when I'm not here, I dream about, I have a picture of this little studio called the corn crib, I have it right next to my computer in my office and I am oriented towards it all year long.
